100/100 Challenge Starts in 3 Weeks!

If you don’t know what the 100 Runs in 100 Days is, it’s pretty explanatory but I’ll explain below anyway. What you need to know for now is: This is our annual Slowtwitch Family Big Group Run that we do every day over the Winter. Or almost every day. Or twice a day. (Or more.)

The 100/100 begins on December 1st upcoming, that’s just under 3 weeks from today. The theme here is consistency. Live to run another day. Run as if the most important thing is tomorrow’s run. We all try to run 100 times in 100 days or, if that’s not possible (or healthy) then we run 90 times in 100 days, or 80, or 70, or whatever matches your schedule, your health, your legs, and your interest.

Last year we had 758 participants, which was a record for this Challenge. There’s a place we log all of this, on our (of course) Training Log, and the only thing you need to do is click a link on your instance of the Training Log (see the image below) and what you click is ENROLL and you know you’re enrolled when your Training Log now has, next to that Challenge, the word LEAVE (as is the case now on my Training Log page, since I’m enrolled in the Challenge).

When you migrate to the 100/100 Challenge page you’ll see a table, and you’re on that table once you’re enrolled (image below). As is our custom, we begin before the Challenge itself with the Airing of the Grievances Thread. This is where we place all complaints, excuses, whines and whinges.

We’ll follow this with the actual thread on the Challenge itself, where we’ll write to each other how things are going, how dumb this Challenge is, how great it is and so on. I myself have never logged more than 70 runs in these 100 days, but I’m usually good for the first 30. We’ll see what happens this year.

As an aid to those of you who need a little extra kick in the pants, we will schedule and populate group runs on Zwift in service of the 100/100 Challenge. We’ll alert you several times in various ways.

Start your running now. Put consecutive runs together. A “run” is 30 minutes (and there are all sorts of additional rules which will be listed on the appropriate Forum thread).

As the Good Book says, “Let all things be done decently and in order (I Cor 14:40),” and as James Bond said, “There’s no sense going out half-cocked” (Live and Let Die). All good wisdom. You have to plan for the 100/100 in advance in my experience. You can’t let it sneak up on you. Make sure you have shoes, clothes, your routes, your flu shot, time in your schedule.

Finally, we make it easy to sync your workouts down to the Training Log if you don't use our log. Strava is our clearinghouse for this. Any questions, ask on the Reader Forum. You have 3 weeks to get everything asked and answered.
