Patrick Lange recently got a brand new custom painted Canyon Speedmax CF SLX, but there is more to this fine super bike than just fresh paint. Lange was a late addition to the Canyon brand in 2016 but it has paid well for the brand that is about to offer its coveted bikes in North America. At the 2016 IRONMAN World Championships in Kona Canyon had the men's champion with Jan Frodeno, the man with the fastest bike split thanks to Boris Stein, and the final men's podium finisher and course record breaking runner Patrick Lange.
Lange spent time with STAPS and Gebiomized on the track to improve his bike position and he also went to the tunnel with Jean-Paul Ballard of Swiss-Side, his new wheel sponsor.
Look out for a blue flash in 2017, and Canyon may have to be prepared to offer this paint scheme to its other customers too. Lange's bike is equipped with Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 components, an SRM power meter, CeramicSpeed goodies, SwissSide Hadron 800 wheels, Continental tires, Ergon grips and a Cobb saddle.
This Canyon Speedmax CF SLX looks fast standing still and we have heard that Lange will indeed add pedals to this super bike. On his race bike in Kona he had Look pedals.
At first glance the bar position of the 2017 setup looks similar, but his SRM display mount is now higher and better hidden from the wind.
Canyon has worked with Ergon very closely to develop the grips and the relationship is not surprising with the brands owned by brothers Arnold.
Another look at the Ergon grip of the Canyon Speedmax CF SLX.
The SRM cranks are a prototype and were apparently the most aerodynamic ones of those tested by the Gebiomized crew.
The crank length is set to 170mm for Patrick Lange and can be adjusted to 3 different lengths. 170 however is also the length he rode in 2016.
Lange stayed with Cobb as his saddle choice as this Fifty-Five model prevents him from sliding around too much. The bottle mount behind the post is Canyon specific.
His name is featured on the top tube and the storage is neatly hidden away right behind it.
Tools and a spare tube are stashed within.
The Swiss-Side wheels are new for Lange and he will be on the Hadron 800 model. The wheels can be had by everyone but the distinctive graphics are custom.
A special handmade Continental GP TT tire is on the back, and the front tire is a 23mm GP 4000 S.

Ready to take on the competition
