Most professional triathletes are not home enough to be able to care for pets, but several pros have spouses, family and friends who assist them when they are at races across the globe. We wanted to look closer at some of these beautiful animals.
In this gallery we feature dogs of Conrad Stoltz, Amanda and Michael Lovato, Linsey Corbin, Kelly Lilljeblad, Mirinda Carfrae, Belinda Granger, Michellie Jones, Danelle Ballengee, Siri Lindley and Kelly and Matty Reed.
Mossie is one of Conrad Stoltz's dogs and he is a a Boerboel - a South African breed. He is a fierce defender despite looking very placid here.
Bakkies is Conrad's other dog. Bakkies is a bit younger and he is a Stafforchire Terrier crossed with a Boerboel.
In North America and Europe people worry about their dogs being hit by cars. Conrad worries about his dogs by bitten by snakes or attacked by baboons like Bakkies was.
Amanda Lovato with Luna, a 7-year old, wire haired Jack Russell Terrier, and Blue, a 12-year old rescue Whippet.
Amanda calls Luna a bad ass runner and finished in second place with her at the "Cause for Paws 5k" in Boulder.
Belinda Granger's dog Grip is waiting for mom to return from training.
Madison is Linsey Corbin's Golden Retriever and she is
5 years old.
Mirinda Carfrae with her dog Donkee, a 9-year old English Mastiff x Ridgeback in holiday spirit.
Kelly Lilljeblad running with her Labs Aggie (3-years old) and Pre (5.5 years old) and yes they are
related.
Kelly and Matty Reed's Weimaraners Storm (9-years old)
and Ashton (8-years old.) They used to run more, but now they just do shorter easy runs and trips to park with kids.
Danelle Ballengee slipped on an icy patch on a Moab Utah trail run and fell 40 feet off a cliff two winters ago. Unable to walk due to smashed and broken pelvis, ribs, back and arm, she survived 51 hours in sub freezing weather thanks to Taz, who provided warmth at night. Eventually Taz ran for help and led rescuers five miles to rescue his
master.
Michellie Jones has her dogs very excited when the fridge is open.
We are all smiles here, but one of the rascals is missing for sure. In the fridge possibly?
Siri Lindley with her dog Whoopie in 1999.
